Import your customers and rigs

Bring customers and their RVs over from a spreadsheet or your old shop system. RVDesk previews every import before writing anything, and an import can be undone.

Where to find it

  • Data Migration

RVs are called vehicles in RVDesk’s menus, so the rig step is labeled Vehicles.

  • Export customers and vehicles from your old system as CSV or XLSX, with the header row. The column names can be anything. You match them up in RVDesk.
  • Include each customer’s ID from your old system, and the same ID on each of their vehicle rows. That’s how a rig finds its owner, and how a second import knows not to create duplicates.
  • Every customer needs a name: a full name, a first and last name, or a business name. Every vehicle needs a VIN, a plate, a year and make, or its ID from the old system.

Import customers, then vehiclesLink to the section “Import customers, then vehicles”

  1. In the sidebar, open Data Migration. The steps run in order: Customers, Vehicles, Inventory and Repair history.
  2. Next to Customers, select Start, then Choose a file.
  3. Match each RVDesk field to one of your columns. Leave a field on — not imported — if you don’t have it. If your dates are written day first, tick Dates are day/month/year.
  4. Select Preview — writes nothing. RVDesk shows how many rows it would Create, Update and Skip, and how many Needs review.
  5. If that looks right, select the Import button. It shows how many records it will write.
  6. Do the same next to Vehicles, and map Source customer ID so each rig attaches to its owner.

Undo an importLink to the section “Undo an import”

Every import is listed under Previous imports. Select Undo on a row to remove the records that import created. Anything it updated, and anything that was already in RVDesk, is left alone.

Only have a few customers? Add them one at a time with Add Customer on the Customers page instead.

Create your first work orderA work order holds one visit: the customer, their rig, what they say is wrong and the work you do. Here’s how to open one and find it on the job board.
